How to Lose Cellulite

Cellulite is those unpleasant little dimples which appear on the back of your thighs and on your butt as you gain weight or grow older. Women over the age of 30 years are most likely to get cellulite. The exact cause of cellulite is not yet known and there is no magical cure available for it which makes losing cellulite a full time battle for many. But there are some steps which you can take to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The first step to take is to lose surplus weight. Cellulite is generally made up of fat cells, hence the more fat cells you possess the more cellulite you can develop. On an average, women lose five pounds of muscle and develop fifteen pounds of fat each decade.

Additionally, the skin also gets thinner with age; therefore fat cells will become more prominent. Try to eat a healthy well balanced diet and get to your perfect body weight. Drink lots of water every day to wash out your body from toxins and to hydrate your skin.

The next best step to take for losing cellulite is to exercise. You are required to replace the fat cells with muscle and the best way to do this is by way of daily exercise. A combination of strength training, cardio and flexibility should do the trick.

The cardio portion of the exercise program should include 2mins of moderate walking, stair climbing or cycling. After cardio, it is also essential to calm down for around 2mins. It is acceptable to use indoor exercise equipment.

Follow the cardio with strength training exercises of 15mins, aiming the areas of problem. For e.g. if your problem areas is your thighs you must do exercises particularly intended for increasing muscle in your thighs like leg lifts.

For cellulite on buttocks, do squats or lunges with holding light weights and ankle weights at your side. The most essential part of the exercises is to stretch after each part of the strength training exercise. This will be helpful in increasing the flexibility and length of the muscle and will also reduce the risk of injury.

Creams that claim they can lessen cellulite have yet not been proven to be effective. The use of spray on tans may lessen the appearance of cellulite. If you have money to spend, then you can always try the more expensive option such as liposuction or laser treatments. But be aware, these creams do not cure cellulite forever and the cellulite can come back.

Losing cellulite is not an easy task, but with regular exercise and proper diet, those cottage cheese thighs can simply be a memory. There are some very nice resources that go into greater detail on getting rid of cellulite about which you can find on the internet.
